Blaxtar presents SPOKEN

Raen Music as a label stands for the message in the Music. Both Blaxtar’s and Manu’s album are good examples of that focus. To show that they are not the only ones to pay that much attention to linguistic detail Blaxtar decided to call some friends and ask them whether or not they were interested in performing on an evening with the sole purpose of displaying their lyrical talent. That they were.

The concept is called SPOKEN, which in addition to a abbreviation of the term spoken word, is the Dutch word for ‘ ghosts’ or ‘ haunting’, as in being haunted by thoughts. SPOKEN will have a great variety of professional artists, amongst which are Jiggy Djé, Manu, Typhoon, Rico (Opgezwolle), Bang Bang, Juiceisdunaam, Pete Philly and Blaxtar himself obviously.

Both Blaxtar and Manu can hold their ground when it comes to Spoken Word, as Blax demonstrated in the second and third edition of the open podium night Bridging The Gap. Both gentlemen made an appearance on the third edition as well. *SPOKEN: Escape Studio, Rembrandt Plein, Amsterdam, Wednesday 8pm, October 22nd.

What’s My Name Bitch launch party feat. Blaxtar

‘What’s My Name Bitch’. It’s more than a rhetorical question, it’s a fresh new clothing brand. Blaxtar and owner/designer David K. In celebration of this fact there was a What’s My Name Bitch Launch Party at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam, August 14th. The new collection was shown during this event, which was musically enriched by the one and only dj Abstract, with the beautiful and eloquent dj Jane Doe to bring the night to a perfect closure.

Blaxtar himself shall perform with his new band, Shyne Speakerlox. In addition to all this, two new music videos of Blaxtar were premiered. For more information on What’s My Name Bitch clothing, please visit HYPERLINK "http://www.wmnbclothing.com" www.wmnbclothing.com

Manu reached semi finals Grand Prize

The Grand Prize of Holland is a national band competition which focuses on the performance skills of their competitors. Each year thousands of artists, experienced and novices, submit their demo in hopes of getting to perform in front of the Grand Prize judges.

Chances are that Raen Music is to become the first hiphop label to harbor two Grand Prize winners in the same category. Whether or not this will become actually remains to be seen, but we’ll be one step closer to knowing this on September 19th. On this day Manu will face off with the other semifinals contestants in the Gigant, Apeldoorn, one hour’s drive east of Amsterdam.

Prior editions of the Grand Prize were won by Raen Music’s own Blaxtar and his younger brother Typhoon, each with a two year space. Since it has been two years since Blaxtar’s victory, the extended family just might be able to sustain this pattern.

Manu’s album ‘ De Vloek Op De Overvloed’ (The Curse Of The Abundance) was released several weeks ago. The promotion that the Grand Prize is going to generate will be a welcome side effect to Manu’s participation.

As yet, Manu’s focused on writing the script for his second video. More on that later.

Two new Blaxtar videos

It took a while for the first video of the Chronozbaal album (Proloog) to get a successor, but it’s here now. The title track Chronozbaal, a NAV production, was made into a music video by the Amsterdam based advertisement company CONCEPTENCREATIE. The online version of the video can be viewed here. Video director Michael Greve and editor/postproduction engineer Erik Wijnands worked hard to finish the director’s cut of this video, which was dubbed the WMNB-edit, in celebration of the launch of the clothing brand.

Manu’s Radio Active

Most have heard Manu’s album De Vloek Op De Overvloed (The Curse Of The Abundance), a relentless album that paints a grim but truthful picture of reality. However, the anthropologist to be has much more to offer though. He’s due to start as the main host for the new FunX radioshow SPOKEN, a derivative from the SPOKEN event Blaxtar is launching on October 22nd in Escape Studio in Amsterdam. The radio show is to capture the significance of hiphop lyrics and does so by confronting artists with their own words and critically reviewing them. Manu is no stranger to the radio studio, together with his brother Neo he once hosted a local radio show in Gouda, his birthplace.

Manu’s SPOKEN radio show will air every Sunday between 7 and 9 pm starting September 7th at FUNX radio.
